A gathering at the Carrick-on-Shannon Angling Festival for Tony Kersley’s 6th win

September 23rd, 2013 | by

Carrick-on-Shannon was one of the original “Magnificent Seven” angling festivals sponsored by the Irish Tourist Board and it dates back to the 1970’s.  This was a time when 1000’s of UK anglers dashed off to Ireland to by ferry beat the ‘close season’ from March 16 to June 16.

However, the Carrick Festival has always been in late September and another bit of history has been written – this time by Tony Kersley – winning the event for a sixth time!   The 52 year old from Enniskillen and sponsored by Tubertini Tooman scored three section wins, one second and third, which is well worth the €1000 first prize.

Leitrim is blessed with quality loughs and Kiltybardan was Tony’s first stop and he weighed-in with 12.900kg of roach and hybrids all caught on a straight bomb and a single red maggot.  Next was Lough Cloonahee where he switched between pole and feeder to get 5.560kg of perch, hybrids and roach.   From there he moved to the Mud Flats on the River Shannon and had small roach on a straight bomb again.

  • 2 Nick Elliott  Oxford 6pts
  • Daragh Finnegan   Castlerea 6pts
  • 4 Brian Bohan  Sheemore  7pts
