Black lures attract the perch on Lough Ennell

December 21st, 2016 | by

Michael Flanagan from Midland Angling reports on some super fishing with black lures:

Our good pal Marty Smith was back over from Macklesfield near Manchester last weekend and had a few lovely days on Ennell, Derravaragh and also met the anglers on Glore.

I really can’t remember when Marty starting coming to the Midlands, but he is well known on the angling scene here in Mullingar and had adopted Mullingar as his 2nd home. We had some fantastic perch fishing on Ennell last Friday in perfect condition and once again black rubber lures worked a treat. On some drops the lures just hit the bottom and were sucked in like sweets, the perch colour also worked well and I coped some of these up in Wild total Outdoors last week. I let the cat out of the bag as they say and told Sean Matthews, that that’s the one working.

I dropped into Wild Total Outdoors last week and checked out some of the fantastic gifts for Christmas and the New Year. Sean Matthews was busy packing up some of the Stanley thermal flasks, which are a lifesaver in the cold frosty days on our Lakes and Rivers. As mentioned above I also copped some of the rubber lures I use for the perch fishing, and the bargain bucket has some of the Black, White, and Red Bulldawgs that worked on Derravaragh some weeks back. Drop into Sean or Brian this week in Wild Total Outdoors, and they will certainly point you in the right direction when it comes to catching fish. The lads also make a mean Cup of Tea and Coffee, we are told and this I have to check out. Mind you I might have to bring a pinch of Salt for some of the Fishy stories told on these Coffee breaks.
