Float ledgering technique gives immediate results on the Inny River

August 23rd, 2012 | by Nancy Hearne

Weather has been mixed with heavy showers and sunny periods, light winds from the South and a noticable shortening of the days.

Brian Lincoln made his yearly pilgramage and forced me out of my lethargy. We had a couple of great evenings down at the Canal where we met up with Tony, over from the UK, on one of his regular fishing trips.

Brian and I had some really good sport on the Tench, Roach and Perch. Even Mr Scully came out for the trip and seemed to enjoy it despite falling in the Canal once or twice. We cleaned and raked out the spot and had good numbers of fish. I suggested using a float ledgering technique which had immediate results. Even the clouds were spectacular of an evening.

Tony spent 4 days fishing on the Canal and had a bag of over 60lb on day 1, we are awaiting some photographs and more detailed reports.

Down at Doonis we managed a rare Dragonfly, a Migrant Hawker (Aeshna mixta) which is an excellent find for the Midlands of Ireland, and is one of only 56 specimens seen in Ireland in the last 4 Years.
