Tough conditions at Belmont Angling Club’s Canal Match

July 26th, 2017 | by

Patrick Foran reports from Belmont Angling Club’s Canal Match:

Last Sunday (23rd of July 2017) the Belmont Angling Club met up for another one of their summer competitions on the banks of the Grand Canal.

Conditions proved to be difficult as it was a bright warm day and there wasn’t much colour on the water. There was some boat activity before the competition started and everyone hoped that this would stir up the water and bring the bream on the feed.

Fishing started at 2pm and most anglers had fish from the first cast. Roach and Rudd were plentiful and even though they were the only small they proved to be the bread and butter of the event.

Fishing finished up at 6pm and bags were then weighed in. The results were as follows:

1st Place: Pat Foran

2nd  Place: Dan Keogh

3rd Place: Les Howard

4th Place: Eugene Cahill

Many thanks to all involved especially the committee for running and organising the event and providing refreshments for the anglers. Also special thanks to Waterways Ireland for excellent maintenance of the canal.

The next competition will take place at Shannon Bridge on the 20th of August 2017. The draw will commence at 12.30m, followed by fishing from 2pm-6pm. Contact Noel at Belmont Angling Club on T: 0879383553 for more information.
