15lb pike for Clíodhna at Keady and District competition

May 24th, 2017 | by

There was a great turn out from the Keady and District Anglers junior section for a mixed day on the angling front. On the plus side, Clíodhna McKenna completely blew her PB out of the water when she landed a 15lb 15oz pike. this super fish made here the winner on the day. Well done Clíodhna.

15lb pike

Clíodhna with her new PB 15lb 15oz caught on a joey mackerel hard on the bottom.

The club tells us there was more eating done than fish getting caught but the craic was good and sometimes that is the main thing. Keady and District Anglers wanted to be sure to thank all the parents and grand-parents for their help on the day.

Go fishing…

While members of the Keady & District Angling Club fish for most species of fish, the Club is a Pike (Esox lucius) angling club. The club organizes regular Pike fishing events, usually held on a Sunday, with fishing running from 11am until 4pm. The Club also has a proud tradition of encouraging the young people from the wider area to pursue angling as a hobby and this is one of the most worthwhile aspects to club life.

Lough Muckno is located off the N2 on the eastern side of Castleblaney and is the largest lake in the area. It covers an area of circa 325 hectares with depths to 20m. There are a number of excellent shore fishing locations on this lake which can be readily accessed by pike anglers. The main pike fishing locations including White Island, Black and Yellow Island, South Lodge and Toome Point. This lake holds excellent stocks of small to medium sized pike with many fish in excess 20lbs being taken every year. This fantastic water has also produced a number of fish over 30lbs.
