Canal pike to over 15lb for Tullamore and District Anglers

Tullamore And District Anglers held their latest Pike competition on the Grand Canal on Sunday the 14th of January. Pat Foran reports from the event…

The conditions on the day were mild early on but turned wet and windy in the last hour of the competition. 12 Anglers fished from 10 am until 4 pm on the day and most caught fish.

This was the clubs first Pike angling competition of 2018 and as a tradition, the club gives a prize to the angler who catches the first pike annually at this event. Seamus Hogan was the man who won landed the first fish on the day, only 18 minutes into the session.

Seamus caught the 7lb 8oz pike on a float fished smelt dead bait. This turned out to be the start of a great day for Seamus as he went on to land a lovely canal pike of 15lb 11oz and a smaller one at 5lb 14oz.

Other anglers did well on the day with many fish in the 7lb and 8lb brackets being recorded.

The results were as follows:

  • 1st Seamus Hogan – 3 Pike (29lb 11oz)
  • 2nd Daniel Lawlor – 3 Pike (11lb 9oz)
  • 3rd Robbie Lawlor – 2 Pike(9lb 3oz)
  • 4th Johnny Keogh – 1 Pike (8lb 11oz)
  • 5th John James Mulligan -1 Pike(8lb 8oz)

The Next Tullamore and District Angling Club event will be on Sunday 20th January.
