Late August provides good sport for pike anglers on Derg and Lower Shannon

29 August: Holiday season is well under way and the Lough Derg area is still fishing extremely well with large numbers of pike anglers descending on Lough Derg on Sunday the 27th of August.  All the usual areas are fishing well regards Pike fishing especially Lough Derg and the area has been receiving high praise from both local and visiting Anglers to the area.  Weights being caught are varying from 15lbs to 28lbs caught.  The area is seeing a good range of visitors from many parts of Ireland and Europe at the moment.  Pike fishing is certainly proving to be popular at the moment as the resource is abundant

21 August: Fishing has remaining good in and around Lough Derg.  Weights caught are ranging from 15lbs to 23lbs.  Two German anglers reported catches of up to 50 Pike during last week with sizes varying from 15lbs to 23lbs and reported that they come to Lough Derg regularly to Pike fish as they believe it is one of the best lakes in Europe for Pike.

It has been both reported to and noted by Birr staff that significant littering is taking place in some areas in the Lower Shannon region in recent weeks.  We would kindly ask all who use the water courses to bring home their rubbish or use bins provided.
