Michael Flanagan reports on the angling news from the Midlands…

COLOURFUL PIKE

It was very mixed fishing last weekend on the pike scene. On Saturday a real feeding frenzy took place on some of our local lakes, and for a very short time in and around lunchtime some cracking pike were caught. Its incredible the difference in color of pike from the same venue. I had Uncle pat on board last Saturday and on one drift we hit 4 pike working colorful lures.

Uncle Pat caught this bright green pike

The first pike was a beauty of 14lbs and was very dark in color .Ten minutes later we got stuck into another cracking fish, and it was completely different in color, more like you normal green colored pike. All the pics will be up on my angling site later in the week – Midland Angling.

REILY BOYS IN TOWN

Last Sunday Stan Ryan was back on the Midland lakes, and this time around had his two Grandsons Leon, and Keelan Reilly on board. The lads really love their fishing, and stuck it out on Derravaragh last Sunday in hard conditions.

A lovely pike for Junior angler Kealan

Early morning was ok, but come mid day the wind got up, and we had heavy mist. Mind you we did not blank, and Keelan had a nice pike on a wobbled deadbait. We were unlucky not to have a few more pike, and got hits and follows before the weather turned a little nasty.

SHIMANO GEARING UP FOR 2015

Last week Shimano launched their 2015 catalogue of gear for the New Year. It’s packed with mouth-watering rods, reels, and loads of accessories. They really have pushed out he boat this year on new products, and most tackle centers worth their salt should have a full range of Shimano gear.
