A few fish on the Laune after long quiet spell

August 28th, 2018 | by

Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Association reports on the latest salmon catches on the river…

Fishing on Laune over the past few weeks has been quiet with only the odd fish been taken mainly due to the lack of adequate water conditions and low angling effort. However the fishing has improved over the past week and a number of fish have been caught and met at Johnson’s & Heffernan’s fisheries.

The fly has been working best, small flies in sizes 12’s & 14’s fished on full floating lines. There are fish holding in the pools and a few fresh have also been met and seen running most days.

The water levels are still low and we are still waiting a good flood to get more fish moving up river. Currently the river is at 0.8m on the gauge.

Prospects

Rain is expected over the coming weekend so lets hope it produces a rise in levels. The fishing should be should improve significantly once we get higher water and fish spread throughout the river.
