August 23rd, 2012 | by Myles Kelly
Lindsey Clarke reports:
Monday 13th to Sunday 19th August 2012.
River levels were not particularly high this week. There was a small flood on Monday (0.21m) but for the rest of the week water levels were lower than desirable. The gauge average for the week read 0.14 metres. There were a few rods about despite the poor conditions at times and 41 rods fished for the week. There was a number of salmon recorded by visiting rods. On Monday, Peter Grahame recorded a 3lb grilse caught on a fly and released again on beat 8 and John Lennon accounted for a small grilse caught on a fly from beat 5. On Wednesday, Denis Bonnet registered a 4lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 7. On Thursday, Denis logged a further grilse of 4lb caught on a fly from beat 8 and Pierre Rumeau accounted for a 5lb grilse caught on a fly from beat 8. On Friday, Niall Hosey recorded 2 grilse to 3lb caught on worm & spinner from beat 8. The forecast for the coming week is for more unsettled weather and with the winds forecast to blow from the westerly quarter, we should receive some rain and better water levels.
