A handful of salmon on the Laune, anglers hope for improvement

June 4th, 2015 | by

Billy Downes reports as of Tuesday the 2nd June the Laune in beautiful condition gone back up overnight and still rising to about 2 feet on the gauge at Johnston’s, 1.45 M at the Laune Bridge.  It may take a while today for any colour from the Gweestin to clear.

After Tuesday last week news of fish became scarce.  There are reports of running fish and some sea trout but mostly I am hearing about the wintery conditions and the scarcity of fish.  On the plus side this fresh rise in water and the good tides for the week should improve prospects.

Beat 3:

Beautiful water on Beat 3 and Jim Flinders had a 3lbs plus sea trout there on a salmon fly on Saturday.  There is also news of a couple of salmon being caught there on Monday.

There were no reports from the Beats 1 or 2 on the Laune, Killarney Lakes, Lough Leane or Killarney Flesk.

With the good water and high tides for the week I expect that there will be fish running the system – if your timing is right you could meet a good one.
