Drowes ends the season well

October 4th, 2017 | by

Water levels were good for the last 6 days of the season averaging 0.67m on the gauge at the Four Masters Bridge. The river finished the 2017 season well with good numbers of salmon caught. These were mostly coloured fish but they provided good sport for those that fished to the close of the season on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Norman Wakenshaw recorded a 6lb grilse caught on a spinner from the Blackwater.

On Thursday, Paul McGowan reported 2 grilse weighing 4 & 5lb caught and released on fly from the Blackwater. Peter Cooks logged a 5lb grilse caught on fly from The Nursery.

On Friday Peter reported another 2 grilse caught and released on fly and Paul McGowan once again was successful recording 3 grilse of 4 to 5lb caught and released on flies from the Blackwater.

Marty King caught and released another 4 grilse over the week on Shrimp from various pools.

Over the week, Walter Huldi logged 5 salmon to 10lb caught on flies from various pools with all but 1 of these being released again. Pierre Yves Legall reported his 1st ever salmon caught on a fly. This was a 5lb grilse caught from the Broad Water on a Green Butt Cascade fly.

The Del Forge party of 3 anglers recorded 20 salmon caught for their 8 day trip. These weighed from 4 to 10lb and were caught on the fly and Rapala lures.

So, the 2017 season ended well on the Drowes. A slow start to the season this season but the river fished very well overall for the 2017 season
