Emma leaves little mark on the Drowes, 1 salmon caught

March 5th, 2018 | by

Water levels were lovely over the week. The gauge read 0.62m at the start of Monday and the river gradually fell to read 0.52m by the end of Sunday. The fishery was fairly quiet with only a few rods fishing over the week as cold conditions set in and storm Emma hit over Thursday & Friday and Red Warnings were issued for the whole country. Strangely enough, we saw very little snow but few people traveled and only the very hardy fished.

Chris McGovern had this salmon on a worm

On Saturday, Chris McGovern caught the 4th salmon of the season on the Drowes. This was a 7½ lb salmon caught on worm from the Mill Pool.

River Drowes

The Drowes Fishery is one of Ireland’s premier spring salmon and grilse fisheries. The river is some 5 miles in length, with over 70 named pools, flowing from Lough Melvin at Lareen Bay and entering the sea at Tullaghan, just outside Bundoran. The Drowes has a wide variety of water suitable for all fishing methods, including several miles of good fly water and deeper slower moving pools suitable for spinning and bait fishing.
