Erriff Fishery Update

September 3rd, 2018 | by

Osgur Grieve sent in the the angling report for the period August 22nd – 30th.

We have had 11 salmon for this period. Some of the catches included the following: On Thursday 23rd Christopher Thornton released a wild grilse of 2.5lbs using a Cascade, he was fishing the Broken Bridge pool on Beat 5. Friday 24th Ian McDonnell released a small wild grilse of 2lbs in the Upper Garden pool using an orange shrimp fly. Saturday 25th Alan Molloy returned to fish with us and released a 3lbs wild grilse in the Lower Garden pool using a silver stoat’s tail. Later that evening young Jack Mannion returned to fish with us and had a great time landing 2 grilse of 2 lbs and 4lbs in the space of half an hour from the Falls pool using a silver monkey of his own tying. Sunday 26th the local angling club fished and Redmond Cabbott released a nice 7lbs wild salmon from Beat 2.

On Monday 27th first time visitor to the Erriff Finbarr O’Donavin released a wild grilse of 4lbs from Colonel’s pool on Beat 6 using a Cascade. Thursday 30th regular angler Ian Ferris released a 10lbs wild salmon from the Falls pool using a Stoat’s tail tube. 16 sea trout were also recorded for this period ranging in weight from 0.5lbs. to 1.25lbs. With September upon us we are hoping for the fishing to pick up as the fish start to become more aggressive towards the end of the season. We also await the appearance of a late run of fish to the system during September. For fishing bookings please call the fishery office on (095) 42382.

Go Fishing

The Erriff is a spate river draining beautiful mountain scenery and entering the sea at Killary Harbour, near Leenane. The river is split into 9 beats, and is flyfishing only for the most part. The river provides quality fishing for salmon and sea trout in spectacular surroundings. There is also lake fishing available on Tawnyard Lough, on one of the tributaries, providing sea trout fishing from July to September.

If you wish to book fishing please call the fishery office on (095) 42382 or email us at erriff.fishery@fisheriesireland.ie
