Erriff off the mark with first salmon

May 10th, 2018 | by

Padraic O’Malley reports that the first salmon has been landed on the Erriff for 2018. The fish was a wild fish weighing 9.5lbs, and was caught by Alan Coles from Essex in England.

The sparkling silver fish was caught in the Garden Pool and took a small Cascade fly. Alan was fishing with Will Wright, also from Essex and both are regular visitors to the Erriff.

Padraic reports good water levels at the moment, with the gauge showing 1.1, ideal conditions for flyfishing, and fresh fish running the river too.

Go Fishing

The Erriff is a spate river draining beautiful mountain scenery and entering the sea at Killary Harbour, near Leenane. The river is split into 9 beats, and is flyfishing only for the most part. The river provides quality fishing for salmon and sea trout in spectacular surroundings. There is also lake fishing available on Tawnyard Lough, on one of the tributaries, providing sea trout fishing from July to September.
