Angling Report 4th May

As of Monday 4th May Laune up slightly to 1 foot  4 inches on the gauge at Johnston’s and still rising.  A good bit of colour coming into the Laune from the Gweestin which should be cleared early in the week.  At last one of our members reported a salmon to me.  (See Beat 3 below)  A reasonable angling effort over the weekend but fish are still hard to meet.  There are sightings of more sea trout being reported and hopefully a few members or visitors will catch a few salmon or sea trout before the commercial nets open next week.   The water level is lovely and the tides are right for the week and weekend.

Beat 3:

Nice water on beat 3 and Thomas ward from Tralee caught a lovely salmon of 8 lb. spinning there on Friday.  As well his salmon Thomas also caught two good brown trout well over 1.5 lb. which he returned, good trout for the Laune by any measure.

8 lb salmon from Beat 3 by Thomas Ward.

8 lb. salmon from Beat 3 by Thomas Ward.

Prospects: I think I said this time last year that 2014 would have to be better than 2013 it the same this time, surely 2015 can’t be as bad as 2014.

Permits for Laune Anglers waters from now to the end of July only €25 per day.

RIVER LEE

No report.

RIVER LEE ESB FISHERY

No fishing due to high water levels

RIVER BANDON

No salmon to report for the week.  Heavy rain resulted in the river being too high to fish on Sunday.  Prospects are brighter for the week ahead as the badly needed rise in the river level should bring fresh fish into the system

RIVER ILEN

6 fish landed for the week, best was 12 lb. landed by a local angler on a flying C.

COOMHOLA RIVER

No report.

OUVANE RIVER

The first fish of the season weighing 5 lb. was landed by Aaron Kingerley.
