May 2nd, 2012 | by

Ghillie Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on Lough Currane from his blog at http://wwwsalmonandseatroutphotos.blogspot.com/

24/4/12 there was reasonable action on the fly, local ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy and his client lost a fine fish on the fly after 45 minutes, my Noble Salmon got fed up taking the lead, and headed straight to the nearest submerged tree and the rest is history, on the evening stint Mr. Alister Dunbar of Scotland, caught a fine 6.5 lb. salmon on the fly, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan – www.vincentsfishing.com Wind was all over the place ESE S veered SW light to fresh, and veered back again.

Mr. Michael Shultz, Berlin, Germany with a nice salmon with ghillie Neil O'Shea.

25/4/12 There was a strong Easterly wind blowing down the Lake with plenty of heavy showers, but that didn’t stop Mr. Michael Schultz of Berlin Germany, catching a 7.5 lb. salmon on the troll with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea – www.oshealoughcurrane.com in the fly department, nothing to report but to be fair to my Noble fly Anglers, conditions were not in their favour.

26/4/12 the wind was in the east again today and the majority of anglers drew a blank, so I will go to quote of day and salmon of the day, Mr. Mark Knowles of the UK fishing with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy, went into the mouth of the Commeragh this evening and as they entered the Commeragh Local ghillie Mr. Vincent O’Sullivan – www.vincentsfishing.com was just leaving and said I have fished all day, and fished my best salmon flies, and told Dominic there is no way there fish in there, well Dominic being a professional, ignored his comments, and with in ten minutes of taking over from Vincent, Mr. Mark Knowles of the UK caught a fine salmon in the 6 to 7 lb. class and finished his evening off with a fine sea trout in the 3 lb. class, and here ended the lesson.  Wind as already stated with showers throughout the day.

Another nice salmon for Michael Schultz and Neil O'Shea

27/4/12 Again there was a fresh NE wind blowing down the lake, but this did not deter, Mr. Michael Schultz of Berlin Germany, catching a fine 6.5 lb. salmon on the troll with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com

Charlie, Gary and Richie at the Launch of Lough Currane DVD

28/4/12 I will start today’s notes on the launch of the Sea To Stream a Salmon & Sea Trout season on Lough Currane Video, narrated by Niall Toibin with Richie Johnston & Charlie Stuart. And I can tell you there was a good turn out in the Butler Arms Hotel, and this video, I can tell you is fantastic and a great advert To Irish Fishing and especially to the Waterville Fishery and if you would like to buy this video you can @ www.anglersview.tv I believe that Mr. Niall Toibin is a bit under the weather, and on behalf of all we anglers and fans alike we wish Mr. Niall Toibin a fast recovery to full health.  Now we head out onto Lough Currane and there was a fine 8 lb. salmon caught on the fly in Copal, by Mr. Michael Schultz of Berlin, fishing with his ghillie Mr. Neil O’Shea and of www.oshealoughcurrane.com now we go down stream to the famous Butler Pool  www.watervillegolflinks.ie Mr. James Hinchey caught a fine 7 lb. salmon on the fly with his ghillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy. Wind East light to fresh.

29/4/12 Lough Currane was on the wild side with a strong NE wind blowing across the Lake, two boats did venture out but failed miserably in their duties.

30/4/12 Wind was in the east again and sadly my Noble Anglers failed again. Wind as already stated, there was good cloud cover with the odd shower.  That is your ration for this week, from your ghillie/Guide and the Waterville fishery.  No Spin No Fly’s just facts.
