Low water on the Bandon but a few springers caught

May 10th, 2018 | by

Jason Nash from the Bandon Angling Association reports on recent conditions on the Bandon…

09 May: River levels have dropped to summer low levels and with it the catches of salmon. Some salmon are still running and a few springers were caught last week, mostly to spinner and bait.

Dredging for the Bandon Flood Relief Scheme has recommenced since May 1st which has reduced fishing opportunity on our lowest beat.

Rain is due on Friday so this may encourage better numbers to run again.

Anthony with his salmon

Attached once again is Anthony Buckley who has tagged out with his third retained fish of the season. At this stage I’m like a broken record, but… well done Anthony. Interestingly, this fish had a brush with a net at some stage of its journey from Greenland and was injured very badly.

03 May: Great news for club member, Robert Quin who caught these two fish up river on the fly. The 1st one weighing 10lb 6oz caught on Tuesday and the 2nd at 13lb caught on Wednesday. Well done Robert! On May first Jonathon Walsh had a super fish of 10lb.

Go Fishing…

Bandon Angling Association have set up a guiding service in conjunction with Jason Nash, Peter Aspinwall and Phil Dewey. Details of the guiding service are provided on the website and they are looking forward to making memories and enhancing people’s fishing experiences on the river Bandon. Day tickets and club membership are also available.

Kilcoleman Fishery, Enniskeane, is renowned for its hospitality. The owners David and Patricia Lamb make a particular effort to make their guests feel at home. Past visitors have described the atmosphere as ‘laid back’ and the accommodations as ‘cosy’. Kilcoleman is “fly only” throughout the entire season. However, in certain water conditions, spinning is permitted for salmon. Trout angling is “fly only” at all times.
