Memorable day for Lisa O’Hagan on The Moy Fishery!

June 30th, 2017 | by

Fishing on the River Moy was a little slower as in previous weeks. Yet, the Moy system had a reported catch of 352 salmon for the week bringing the total for the season, so far, to 2,746 (+510 on 2016).

With a total of 34 fish and conditions ideal for the fly anglers on the Moy Fishery enjoyed another good week. On the Ridge Pool, Andrew Hilder, UK, had two grilse (5.5 lbs. & 6.5 lbs.) on fly, while John McKinney, Athlone, had a grilse on the Weir Pool also on fly. On the Cathedral Beat, fly angler, Peter Williamson, UK, landed two fish at 5 lbs. and 8 lbs. respectively.

However, the highlight of the week on the Moy Fishery was the visit of the Irish Ladies Fly Fishing Association lead by Julie McGeever. The lady anglers were fishing the Ridge Pool, Cathedral Beat & Ash Tree Pool. While only one salmon was caught amongst the ladies, it was taken by Lisa O’Hagan from Dundalk, the youngest member of the group. Lisa was of course over the moon as this was her first ever salmon! She got the four pounder on the Cathedral Beat and the fish weighed 4 lbs.

Further upriver on Mt. Falcon, Peter Clarke, UK, caught a 9 lbs. salmon, while German fly angler, Markus Huber had a seven pounder on the Foxford Fishery. Angling conditions around Foxford were also favourable during the week with Rinanney and Foxford Salmon Anglers water producing over 60 salmon.

On Cloongee, a group of 3 French anglers had a total of 8 grilse for the week. All fish were caught on bubble & fly. Also on Cloongee, lady angler, Cathryne Boyce, from Northern Ireland had a 4 lbs. grilse on fly. East Mayo Anglers reported over 30 fish for the week, 5 of which were released.
