Yoyo water levels but some good salmon on the Bandon

September 27th, 2017 | by

Jason Savage reports on the recent salmon fishing on the Bandon as the season draws to a close…

20 September: Heavy rain today has seen the river starting to rise and a good flood is on the way. This is going to ensure we have great water for the remainder of the season. The bulk of the catch is still mostly made up of stale fish, however some fresh salmon and sea trout are running.

24 September:  Presently, the river is high but dropping. Tomorrow promises to be fairly settled but from Tuesday onwards we expect more unsettled weather. We have received reports of fish being caught from club members also. One coloured 13lb fish caught near Baxters bridge on a tube fly was safely returned yesterday. With just days to go to the end of season 2017, we want to thank all our members for their help and co-operation with patrolling, cleaning cutting and repairing etc. A big thanks for the massive efforts made by individuals who have volunteered so much of their time to do work behind the scene. We have accomplished so much over the years and have every confidence that Bandon Angling Association will continue to go from strength to strength. Tight lines for the final days!!

26 September: Yo yo water levels have seen more fish caught throughout the river. Last night’s rain have resulted in the river rising rapidly once again. Best catches reported include 3 fish to one rod and a 20lb fish to an angler fishing fly with a single handed rod. Well done to all and hopefully more fish are to follow up until the season’s last cast on Saturday! Tight lines and safe fishing to all.

Go Fishing…

Bandon Angling Association have set up a guiding service in conjunction with Jason Nash, Peter Aspinwall and Phil Dewey. Details of the guiding service are provided on the website and they are looking forward to making memories and enhancing people’s fishing experiences on the river Bandon. Day tickets and club membership are also available.

Kilcoleman Fishery, Enniskeane, is renowned for its hospitality. The owners David and Patricia Lamb make a particular effort to make their guests feel at home. Past visitors have described the atmosphere as ‘laid back’ and the accommodations as ‘cosy’. Kilcoleman is “fly only” throughout the entire season. However, in certain water conditions, spinning is permitted for salmon. Trout angling is “fly only” at all times.
