West Clare Shore Angling Report by Bill Ryan

Tuesday, 16 October 2012

I had a Specimen Ballan Wrasse of 4 lbs. 13 oz. at The Bridges of Ross on 27th September. This was caught on a whole crab on a Tronix 1/0 Crab Hook weighted by 2 x 10 grm.  Olivettes.  This was followed by a week of no fishing due to a heavy swell making conditions too dangerous.

Back to The Bridges on 5th. October Anthony Page and I had some excellent Wrasse fishing. We had about 40 Wrasse between us with Anthony catching a Wrasse of 4 lb. 10 oz. just 2 oz. off Specimen! My best was 4 lb. 2 oz.  We also had Pollock on whole crab! We explored a new mark near Donegal Point at Farrihy and had Wrasse to 4 lb. an Easterly breeze meant fishing was slow.

On 10th Oct. at Baltard, Anthony concentrated at first on Wrasse while I went after Pollock. I had several Pollock on Soft Plastics while Antony had Wrasse on crab. Later Anthony went after Pollock with a white Senko and had a great Pollock weighing 7 lb.

It broke the head off the net but fortunately it was still in the net when it was recovered! See the video on our Facebook page, it’s hilarious!  https://www.facebook.com/pages/West-Clare-LRF/343134899091807?ref=hl
