Fly fishing for mullet in Kerry for happy Déise man

May 22nd, 2012 | by Nancy Hearne

John Quinlan from the Thatch Cottage in Cahersiveen had Alan O’Neill from Waterford joined him for a days fly fishing for mullet on the 19th May.  Despite several attempts Alan had never manged to get one on fly before.  He had a very enjoyable day hooking almost a dozen mullet on the fly.  Sadly all but one were long distanced released, several after a good fight.  Alan did however land one (see photo).  Mullet can be an excellent alternative to bass during the closed season.
