Monster shark – 1500lb – caught of Clare coast!

May 6th, 2017 | by

The big hits just keep on coming for anglers on the Clare Dragoon. Having just won Catch of the Week for a sixgill estimated at 900lb, anglers on board Luke Aston’s Carrigaholt based charter boat had another enormous sixgill shark – but these time even bigger than the 900lb fish caught last week. In fact it is one of the biggest sharks Luke has ever seen.

sixgill shark

At around 25 feet long, Luke estimated Ben’s sixgill to weigh 1500lb

This one was a true monster of the deep, at almost 25 feet Luke estimated it’s weight at over 1500lbs. Ben Bond was on the rod this time and it took an hour and a half on good 80lb gear to get to the boat. Once unhooked was allowed return to the depths where it came from. This massive shark is one of the biggest fish ever caught on rod on line in Europe.

Luke advises that he has a few spaces for a trip on Monday. General fishing over reefs. Fishing equipment can be supplied. Even today, 06 May, there is a good fishing over the reefs despite the easterly.

Go fishing…
