Plenty of Tope but no big females for Red Bay

July 4th, 2012 | by Nancy Hearne

Tope fishing has become fast and furious over the last couple of weeks with numbers very good south of Red Bay.  But still not happy with the size of the goods although a couple of better fish were taken this week and quite a few double shots also taken in a single day.  37 tope came aboard predator but most of them were pack tope in their late twenties and early thirties, so we are still waiting for the big females to show themselves.

A Double !

A Double !

My finger got a little close on Fri. and when I just took my eye off the ball I got nailed… ah well, all part of the job I suppose!  Next Dutch arrive for a week on Sat,  so I will leave it up to them to decide what the agenda will be for the next weeks fishing.  I hope they fancy the Pollack and deep water as I’m getting a wee bit fed up with the tope hunts.

Ouch ! Won't try that again !
