South Shore’s may day in Kilcoole

May 30th, 2018 | by

South Shore Sea Angling Club report on their recent match at Kilcoole. Paul Mason has all the news…

21 May: After a blistering hot day on Saturday with lovely sunshine Sunday turned out to be more like winter for South Shore’s fifth leg of the master Angler league. Southerly wind had a good chop on the murky turblent sea. With biggish tides it was expected to be difficult to fish and hold bottom. Fortunately the sea was clean of weed which made it very pleasant and easy on the body.

First casts seen a spatter of fish encroach the beach as the tide eased on the north run. Fishing was slow during the turn of the tide with whiting of diminitive size filling score cards. As the tide started to run South and empty out the Irish sea fishing was expected to pick up but unfortunately it never reached the fishy heights of our dreams.

Gurnard, Plaice, Whiting, Bass, Flounders, Coalie, Dabs and the elusive LSD troubled score cards…some nice Plaice ,Gurnard and a Coalie of 36cm filled the anglers catch.

John Bermingham got the winning bag of fish with 11 in zone B ….well done John you never lost it. Paul Whelan was top rod in zone A with 12 fish
