Better salmon and sonaghan trout fishing reported from the Lough Melvin.

June 22nd, 2012 | by Paul Bourke

Lindsey Clarke reports from the IFI Ballyshannon Office:

LOUGH MELVIN – Monday 11th to Sunday 17th June 2012.

Lough Melvin fished well this week for salmon with some 22 plus salmon caught with the majority of these weighing between 3½lb up to 8lb. 14 of these were caught on Sunday. These were mainly caught trolling with the majority caught along the Garrison Shore. The trout fishing improved somewhat too with some better Sonaghan being caught from the deep water drifts.

The Rossinver Fishery recorded 3 grilse caught, all on Sunday. Francis McSharry & Jim Connelly both recorded a grilse apiece caught on the fly and Noel Ward accounted for a grilse caught from Ward’s point catching a further 2 grilse elsewhere on the Lough.
