Corrib cold but fishing picks up as Duck Fly starts

March 29th, 2018 | by

Michael Donnellan tells us in an email that fishing on Lough Corrib is picking up this week.  So far trolling has been the most productive method as the water temperature only passed 6C last week. nonetheless some fly anglers are getting up to 5 to 8  trout per boat. The cold weather has delayed the Duck Fly hatch but there are reports of some fly coming off now and a few decent trout were taken on duck fly between Headford and Cong.

Trout on a duck Fly

Larry McCarthy of Corrib View Lodge Glencorrib (www.corribangling.com) says he’s had as many as 6 in a day on the Duck Fly now – and some fine lumps were amongst them.

On the trolling side trout to 8lbs have been reported but most catches are around 1.5lbs to 2 lbs mark  with average bags of 4 to 6 landed.
