Hanne-Lydia lands the fish of a lifetime

September 26th, 2017 | by

Michael Righton kindly sent on photos and a report of the fish of a lifetime for his 8-year-old daughter, Hanne-Lydia, caught just before the season closed in Cong on the 31st August. Michael was fishing upstream of Hanne-Lydia on the Ashford Castle beat of the Cong River, well after dusk, when he heard a commotion downstream, and news that she was into a good fish. Thinking she had hooked a salmon, he made his way downstream, where the fish was already in the net. No salmon this, it was a beautiful ferox trout, caught on a Toby near the island upstream of Ashford Castle.

Hanne-Lydia had expertly hooked and played the fish to the net, where a proud dad found them.

The trout was measured at 82cm, estimated at 14lbs weight, and both Michael and Hanne-Lydia were happy to see it swim off none the worse for wear. Well done Hanne-Lydia and dad!

Catch-and-release: Hanne-Lydia Righton's 82cm ferox trout is released again.
