John Gaffey wins Maloney Keady Cup on Lough O’Flynn

Joe Fitzharris reports that the Maloney Keady Cup was held on Sunday September 24. There were 22 anglers competing in the first running of this event in reasonable angling conditions which returned a very popular winner in John Gaffey. Results show a tie for second, and third placings which were resolved by Longest fish wins criteria referenced in competition rules.

  • 1-st John Gaffey fish = 2 – lb 14.0 oz
  • 2-nd Shane Stephens fish = 2 – lb 08.8 oz 3-rd Damien Macklin fish = 2 – lb 08.8 oz.

Lough O’Flynn is a 300 acre rich limestone lake located in Co Roscommon just north of Ballinlough village. There are good stocks of wild and stocked brown trout averaging about 1.5 lbs with fish to 3 to 4lbs sometimes caught.
