Kells Angling Club Producing Great Fishing and Great Anglers

August 28th, 2014 | by

Well known angler and angling guide Pat McLoughlin and his son Gerard were out fishing on Monday afternoon last on the Kells Blackwater. It was extremely wet with heavy rain showers but it was not at all cold. In fact it was very mild despite the rain and damp. Water conditions were nice with a light tinge of colour and trout were rising between the showers. By the end of a short 3 hour session Pat and Gerard had about 2 dozen trout each to 16 in. Pat was on dries and Gerard used nymphs.

On the following evening Gerard and Pat went to the river again and had around 20 fish each we had a lot of 10 to 12 in fish with 3 or 4 around 14 to 15 in.  This time Gerard was using dries and Pat was nymphing.

Pat has also let us know that Gerard and Brendan Heaney, both members of  the Kells Anglers Association who were 1st and 2nd in the TAFI Leinster youth river championships recently, reversed the placings in the TAFI all Ireland inter provisional’s lake championships last Saturday. Well done to the lads! In doing this they both secured their place on the TAFI  youths team to represent Ireland in Colorado USA in 2015.

If anyone would be interested in helping out with sponsorship for the lads travelling out to the USA next year, Pat and the Kells Anglers would be delighted to hear from you.
