The OWEL STOCKING COMPETITION was fished last month. Mick Flanagan has all the details…

Lough Owel Trout Preservation Association hosted their annual fundraising trout fly-fishing competition earlier in September. All proceeds from this days fishing is pumped back into Lough Owels stocking funds. It was an 11am start and weigh-in and presentation took place back in Caffreys Bar of Mount Street. The heaviest trout of the day was boated by Eamonn Kelly and it rattled the scales at 3lbs 7.40oz. Liam Cox was 2nd with 3lbs 3.60oz, and 3rd place went to Tosh Grimes. Christy Dunne also featured in the prizes along with Tom Gorman and Martin McGorian.

Brendan Murray and Stan McKeon were weigh masters, and Brendan thanked all who fished and supported the competition. With a special mention going to Dave McBride Southside Angling for sponsoring 1st prize, David O’Malley and also Lakeland Anglers. Brendan announced a sweepstake competition would take place on Owel Thursday 12th October from 10am with weigh-in at Mullallys at 6pm. This is the last day of the brown trout season.
