Rainbow fishing at Carton House looks to improve with milder weather

December 20th, 2012 | by

Rob Love from Carton House Fishery reports:

With milder weather now dominant and with the pretty thick layer of ice disappeared (for the moment) the rainbows on the Sheet of water are looking out for their next meal.  Several patterns would be quite successful, top of the list are goldhead damsel fly imitations with plenty of movement and sparkle.  Other patterns worth giving a go are goldhead nymphs, blobs, boobies and on milder days emerger patterns such as a Klinkhammer for anglers looking for some surface action.

For anyone considering fishing this area for the first time the standard river set up of 5 weight rod and floating line will be perfectly adequate.

Fishing / watercraft lessons can also be arranged on this stretch of water.  Included in the price for a lesson is the hire of a rod, reel, line and flies for anyone new to the sport.

Lessons are with a Carton House Guide and cost €50.

A 6 hour permit continues to be half price at €25.  This offer is open until the start of the season on March 1st.
