February 9th, 2012 | by Paul Bourke

Lough Melvin opened for Salmon fishing on the 1st February and there were some 17 boats out fishing. There were no salmon caught on the opening day and we have heard of no salmon caught to date. The best fish caught on the opening day was a 4½lb brown trout that was returned and a 6 lb brown trout was reported being caught and released from the Rossinver Fishery.
