Trout anglers report mixed results on the Suir

August 24th, 2018 | by

Temperatures have slackened in the Southern Eastern RBD at present and air temperatures have returned to a more normal range.  Day time temperatures at present are ranging between 15 and 21 degrees Celsius. Some rain has fallen in the area but water levels in the rivers of the South Eastern River Basin District have not significantly increased yet.

Overall, trout fishing has been difficult in the South Eastern RBD, especially in tributaries of the main veins such as the Suir, Nore and Barrow.

Two German Anglers met on the Suir recently in the Swiss Cottage area reported mixed fishing in different areas.  Fishing had been quiet in most parts of the Suir, but they were enjoying their holiday and reported catches of trout between 1/2lb to 3lbs.  The Holycross area has been quiet in recent weeks with small fish being reported again on small dry flies.
