    River Fane

    Location: North-east, Dundalk, Co. Louth & Inniskeen, Co Monaghan

    This beautiful small to medium sized river has some fine trout fishing. It has hatches of large dark olives, iron blue duns, various sedges including the grey flag, black gnats and midges. There are various Angling Associations on the river. A permit is required and these can be obtained from teh Associations and nominated distrubutors.

    Season: 1st March – 30th of September. Best Months: April to June and September. All legitimate angling methods allowed depending on the fishery rules and salmon angling regulations.

    River Boyne and tributaries

    Location: North-east. Louth, Meath, Westmeath and Kldare. Slane, Navan, Trim, Kells, Co. Meath

    The River Boyne and its tributaries are some of the countries premium wild brown trout fishing rivers. There are many club fisheries on these rivers, which require a permit. These are available from the clubs and tackle shops. Very good fishing with hatches of various types of olives, mayfly and sedges throughout the season.

    Season: 1st of March – 30th September. Some clubs have their own regulations on opening and closing dates. Best fishing is between April and the end of June and the month of September.     Lough Lene

    Location: North-east. Collinstown, Fore, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath

    This good sized lake fishery (1062 acres; 430 hectares) is managed by a local association. Day permits, season tickets and boat hire are available at the local village shop or Tommy Fagan at 00 353 (0)44 9661359. There is a good stock of wild brown as well as stock brown and triploid rainbow trout. Great hatches of duckfly, mayfly, and various sedges including green peter and murrough.

    Season: 1st of March – 30th of September and the best times are between April – September.

    River Liffey

    Location: Dublin and Kildare. Celbridge, Clane, Newbridge, Kilcullen, Ballymore Eustace.

    There is very good fishing on the many club stretches on this river throughout Dublin and Kildare. The Liffey gets hatches of olives including blue winged olives, sedges, midges and some mayfly. Small black flies are a must on this river. Permits available for most club stretches in fishing tackle shops or from the clubs.

    Season: 1st of March to the 30th of September and the best times are between April and the middle of July. All legitimate angling methods allowed depending on the fishery rules and the salmon and sea trout regulations.
