Fished on the last weekend in July on Lough Muckno, the results of the Garda competition have just become available. Dick Caplice reports that 55 anglers participated in this prestigious event. The weather and water conditions were good and the event was fished on three sections at Concra Wood Upper, Concra Wood Lower and White Island. All sections fished very well indeed with some great weights being recorded. Quality roach were the main catch with some hybrids and skimmers also taken. Feeder tactics produced the best results and a weight of 25lbs+ was required to win each of the sections. The winner of the event was Val Brady with a net of 41lbs 10ozs, Second was Darren Fairhurst with 35lbs 12ozs and third place went to Paul McBride with a net of 30lbs 11ozs.
Coarse anglers will be delighted to hear that the angling access development works commenced on Lough Muckno on Black Island, White Island and Concra Wood this week. As a result of the works, access is restricted in the areas being developed until the works are finished. The progress even since Tuesday has been great and we all look forward to the works being completed in the coming weeks. The upgrading of the tracks and provision of parking bays will mean that anglers will be able to access up to circa 300 pegs and parking on these sections.
