Michael Canney reports on pike fishing for his clients at Portarra Lodge on Lough Corrib.
Last week saw the start of the Pike fishing at Portarra Lodge. Two French anglers came here to try and get their dream fish – a pike of 100 cm. They were on a short visit of four days and boated 12 pike for their three days on the lake. Ten of the 12 pike were in the double figures with the best fish just over the Meter and weighting 18.25 lb. Ant one of those 10 pike would have been a personal best for both anglers and they were very happy that Lough Corrib fulfilled their dreams They, with two other angling friends, will pay a return visit in August/September of this year. They had a wonderful camera and are going to compile a short film of their Piking experience and put it on Facebook – this should ensure an increase in the Pike anglers coming to Corrib from France. PS. I have it from very reliable information sources that recently (in the past two months at most) two Pike of 37.5 lb. and 24.5 lb. were caught on the Fly pretty close to Portarra Lodge. Both fish were released back into the lake.
