The Irish Angling Development Alliance (IADA) reports that Spring has got off to a fantastic start in the South Monaghan area with all the old reliable’s such as Lough Muckno, Capragh, Na-Glack and Monalty producing some fantastic fishing in all quarters. Pike in large numbers have been taken from both shore and boat with all methods being applied and all producing fish from 5lb to a staggering 28.5lbs. Large numbers of pike in the 12lb to 18lb and the 28.5lb (full mackerel) have been taken on Lough Muckno in Castleblaney recently.
Lough Na Glack in Carickmacross has been producing large numbers of pike from 6lb to 12lb and its sister lake Monalty has replicated the same results on the fly. All methods have produced good results on both lakes. Capragh Lake has also produced good numbers of Pike but weights recorded have generally been smaller. Again all methods have produced different levels of success.
