Charter skipper Mark Gannon reports on recent deep sea fishing for his clients fishing out from Courtmacsherry.
The fishing over the Holiday weekend was good at the start and as the weather deteriorated the fishing died off a bit. On the Friday, fishing with 2 Irish and 2 German anglers we caught a variety of species including Mackerel, Pollack, Coalfish, Pouting, Whiting, Dogfish, Bullhuss, Ling, Conger, cuckoo wrasse, Ballan wrasse, Common Skate, Cod and plenty of sandeel. The cod were all nice fish, the heaviest at 6 kg. ,the ling medium size and the skate which was tagged previously aprox weight 25 kg,which was caught on light tackle a 12 lb. class rod and a spinning reel. The Captor, Bert Fritzche from Liepzig in Germany was well pleased with his catch.
On the shore the Bass were scarce but fishing with crab produced a few decent fish off Tanners pier, and a Dutch angler fishing off the pontoon last night caught a 3 kg Bass using crab. Hopefully the weather will settle down in the next few days as the cold north-easterly winds are not good for fishing.
Tight lines, Mark.
