Clare Area – Ken O’Neill IFI Clare area.

Summary.

Persistent Flooding in rivers limiting trout angling.  However, sea angling is providing some nice returns.

Clare Areas

Sea Area – Fanore – Doonbeg

There are a few  nice pollack being caught at the moment in at Fanore – A lady angler (who does not want her name mentioned) caught a 5 lb. Pollack from a boat off Doonbeg.  Mackerel catches are still plentiful off the Clare Coastline – in addition, the Mack’s are generally larger than normal.  However, all anglers are advised to be very careful if angling from elevated positions off the rocks for mackerel.  tope are also being caught, as are dogfish and flat fish.  A conger eel was caught last Wednesday weighing 4.5 kg.

Generally shore angling is slow enough at the moment also.  The large tides and presence of Porpoises near the shoreline are being blamed as they are scaring off the fish.  However, they will be moving off again shortly.

Lisdoonvarna / Fanore International Angling Week is happening at the end of the month (August Bank Holiday Weekend).  There will be a weeks long fishing events that is being organised by the Fanore SAC – Contact James Linnane for more details on same (087 2215159)
