Angling guide Pat Mc Loughlin reports that his son Gerard landed a lovely wild brown trout weighing 4.25 – 4.5lb when fishing recently on the Kells Blackwater. Young Gerard caught this fantastic trout on a size 10 goldhead nymph and although he was delighted with it, he still wants to break the 2lb mark with dryfly. Gerard was fishing with 2 french students that Pat had out for a few days fishing on the river and altogether they had around 70 trout to wetfly, dryfly and nymph. Water levels are still well above those to be expected for the time of year.
