A large crowd turned out to greet the Minister of State Fergus O’Dowd, TD when he visited Windyhouse in Ballygorey, Mooncoin on Monday the 13th August 2012. The visit followed a meeting with the Minister, John Paul Phelan TD, Cllr Pat Dunphy and Snap Net Fishermen earlier in the year in the Ministers office in Dail Eireann. It was felt that snap net fishing was in danger of extinction due to many restrictions being imposed upon them and that their case and way of fishing which dates back hundreds of years needs to be highlighted and protected.
