The weather has been the main talking point on the river over the past week. Temperatures since the weekend have reached up to 28 celcius in almost completely cloudless and windless conditions. Needless to say, fishing has been challenging during the heatwave but some who braved the heat or ventured out at first light have been rewarded with some good grilse, which continue to run in numbers.
Mostly the fish have been proving very hard to tempt, hardly surprising given a river water temperature of a shade under 17 degrees. Prawn, fly and worm have all taken fish this week, with prawn accounting for the majority, followed by fly.
The water level, while low at 0.42 metres is holding up remarkably well in the Mediterranean like conditions. A respite from the searing heat of the past few days is forecast from the weekend on, but very little rain is forecast for the foreseeable future.
