Neil from Boat Angling Ireland reports:

So forecast looked good for today and I have the week off.  Ronald and I decided to hit north , travelled to Ballycastle on Tue avo and launched the boat only to be surprised on how rough the sea was ,we were hopping to try the blonds but no chance so it was mackerel bashing as we’d weather looked good for a bit of sharking in Donegal ,and reports were that 2 shark types were around and the other things u get in tins ,caught loads of good size macks and decided to call it a day and head in only to get tossed and turned in the tide .
So this morning up and at it and headed across the Foyle bridge and it was like a plate of glass headed to a new slip to try round from Malin and steamed out only to be met by a big ground swell we carried on and decided to keep an eye on things we had an area we wanted to go to but had to cut short our journey as the wind picked up and were a little unsure on what the sea had planned, so decided to try we’re we were and give it an hour cum bags over and wait ,had a fantastic slick out but all was quiet ,Ronald had a few spurs , I had a few red gurnard , then Ronald had a nice specimen spur ,as he was measuring etc a few clicks from my rod so I lifted it from the rod holder then all hell broke loose rod was near in the tide fish on great fight and I thought the way the fish was swimming and running I thought it was Mr Porgie but after a while fish came to boat and it was a lovely blue estimating 120 lb ( photo does not do it justice ) quickly photoed tagged and returned ,then back to it ,the rest of the day was slow with no more runs we ended up with a few more spurs and a garfish .we had to cut are day short as the wind picked up and white water had started to break on the swell so we both decided to call it a day and not take any chances so we headed back to port nice to get a blue and hopefully get up again.
