Paul Harris reports reports from the Beara Peninsula and Dromagowlane House: :

Been a busy week shore fishing here on the Beara with some notable catches.

Paul Cox, Bob Yeats and son Paul from the UK were on their second visit to the Beara and had what they described as some of their best days fishing ever. Without giving credit to any one angler, as they all had a good mix of fish they caught during the week bass to 7.5 lbs, thornback rays to 11 lbs, huss to 12 lbs the usual pollack, wrasse and doggies and just to add some variety small eyed, spotted and blonde rays.

Regular visitors Mike Kempster and Chris Blewett, also from the UK managed, as usual, to arrive just as the lovely balmy, still summer weather turned in to a blowy wet one but nevertheless still managed 17 species for the week with double figure huss and conger showing well. Top fish of the week though fell to Chris, a magnificent 18 lbs 3 oz ling. Chris had caught 3 other ling around the 5 lb mark before he got the big one. Sadly in Ireland there is no distinction between shore and boat for specimens and records which is a great shame as a shore caught fish like this should get some recognition.

Down from Dublin for a few days regular visitor Mark Noble mixed bottom fishing with hunting his favourite pollack. Pick of the bottom caught fish was a cracking huss of 13 lbs but it was the pollack catches which again he excelled at.

Plenty of fish with several into double figures topped by a cracking fish of nearly 14 lbs taken on a soft plastic lure fished using Marks version of a drop shot rig. He also had a pollack of around 6 lbs taken by another fish. When he eventually landed it, after a brief tug of war, the pollack was missing a lump out of the top of his head and some very ominous jaw marks – never know what is going to show up on the Beara.
