Lindsey Clarke reports on the fishing on the Drowes last week from 21 – 27 April…
The Drowes continued to run at very low levels again this week and the gauge reading is under 0.5 metre at this stage. The week brought good weather (for non anglers!) and plenty of sunshine which made salmon angling a little challenging in the bright, low water conditions. Despite the odds, there were a number of salmon caught this week.
On Monday, William Rainey recorded a 5½lb grilse caught on worm from the Sea Pools. On Tuesday, Joe Darragh reported a 6lb grilse caught on a Flying ‘C’ lure from the Red Roof. On Thursday, Michael McEvoy logged an 8lb salmon caught on prawn from the Mill Pool and Vincent Hatton accounted for a 7lb fish caught on a Green-butt Cascade fly. On Friday, Dave Olphert recorded a 7½lb salmon caught on a #12 Green-butt Cascade fly from Clancy’s Pool. On Saturday, Stephen McNally reported a 6lb grilse caught on worm from the Sea Pools and Gardiner Mitchell accounted for a 6½lb fish caught on a fly from the Sea Pools. The warm weather looks set to continue but there is some rain forecast and hopefully it will be heavy enough to raise water levels somewhat. Lindsey Clarke IFI-Ballyshannon.
