Brian Stevens, Slaney River Trust, reports on that while salmon fishing is a bit slow on the Slaney some big salmon have been landed…

Fishing on the Slaney has been quite slow for the first week with only about 10 fish landed. The exception to this rule was rookie salmon angler Matthew Summerfield from the UK who, on his first days salmon fishing on Saturday,  landed a lovely 8 lb bar of silver followed by what is largest fish off the Clohamon beat in many years.

The fish, which was too large to fit into the net, measured 103cms and had a girth of 46cms which equates to 24 / 25lbs!

What a first day, most of us will never get a magical 20 pounder, it will be all downhill for him from here.

See the 2014 gallery at www.slaneyrivertrust.ie for more pictures of Matthew’s fish and a few others caught this week.
