Shane Gallagher reports on how things are on the River Drowes:

After 36 hours of rain over last Sunday and Monday the river reached record flood levels peaking at 1.24 metres on the gauge at the Four Masters’ Bridge. The water level has since dropped back to 1.06 metres on the gauge this morning following a dry, frosty weekend.

Water levels look set to remain very high for Opening Day, probably above 0.9 metres, which will make for difficult fishing conditions similar to opening day last season. The forecast is for milder conditions from tonight with rain for the west on Wednesday continuing during opening day on Thursday.
The tackle shop is open from 8am and will be open from 6am on New Year’s Morning.
