Rossin, Slane and District Angling Association ran their Michael Mullen Memorial Cup sea trout competition on the River Boyne at Oldbridge today Sunday 20th July. It was never going to be easy with the very very low water conditions, extremely warm weather with only a light breeze and a fairly bright day although somewhat overcast. There was a senior and a juvenile event and 22 anglers turned up to support both of the clubs events. The day was as much social as competitive with a BBQ being held afterwards at the Curley Hole for all of those who had participated in the competitions. There are currently lots of small sea trout in the Oldbridge Fishery and it was hoped that some of the fish would oblige during the day despite the unfavourable conditions and they did. Many undersized fish were caught and released and a few nice fish were hooked and lost. Fishing took place from 9.30am to 3pm with the weigh in taking place at the Curly Hole car park at 3.30pm.
