Bill Ryan enjoyed some good sea fishing in West Clare last week and tells us:
I have just returned from a week in West Clare where the rock fishing was excellent when conditions allowed. There were plenty of Wrasse at The Bridges of Ross, Bonfils Creek and all the way up to The White Strand at Killard, Doonbeg. Several wrasse to 4 lbs. and over with the best a Specimen of 5.2 lbs on crab at the Bridges of Ross. This was caught on a 12 ft. Pike rod, 30 lbs. b.s. braid, Shimano 4000 reel, 10 grm. Olivette and a size 4 Carp Hook baited with a small crab which was bounced along the bottom. The bite was gentle but when struck the wrasse shot out to sea stripping line from the reel!

Triggerfish showed up at a rock mark near Killard, The White Strand, Doonbeg. Strips of limpet on a size 4 Carp Hook fished just off the bottom was the method. A red bead seemed to entice bites. Best fish was 3 lbs.
